What Constitutes a 'Scotsman'?

I see the SNP are getting very worked up about the forthcoming referendum on Scottish independence.  They have now decided that only people living in Scotland or 'abroad' can vote. For their purposes Scots people living in other parts of the UK are disenfranchised and don't count.

For the purposes of this referendum the SNP have granted 16 and 17 year olds a vote so does that now means that the 16 year old child of an immigrant living north of the border now gets precedence over someone like me who can prove his Scottish heritage back to Cameron of Lochiel?

The SNP are stitching up this referendum by 'selecting' who can or cannot vote.  If they win the only benefactors will be the English who will at long last get rid of all the Scottish politicians who affect the voting in Westmonster particularly when it has no consequence on them.

I really hope that the SNP win but frankly I still believe, despite the rigging of the vote, that there is still a sufficient number of intelligent Scots who will tell Salmond to go and boil his head!

Holidays - The Western Isles (Part 2)

Horgabost Isle of Harris
Well I arrived back from my 'wild' camping holiday on the Western Isles in the early hours of this morning.  It was probably at least a day early but I had my reasons.  You see when you load up your car with all the means to go camping it does help if you don't lose your car keys!

When I discovered the loss I was pitched at a wild camping site at a place called Horgabost on the western coast of the Isle of Harris.  In reality it is about as remote from civilisation as any place in the UK! In the distance there were the odd cottage probably owned by Hebrides hermits but the nearest small store was at least 10 miles away.

It is beautiful as you can see when the sun shines but this is the Outer Hebrides and my first night under canvas was spent listening to the wind tearing at the tent and the rain battering away trying to get at me.  Fortunately I took a tip from the professionals and placed rocks on my guide ropes.  Nae bother Jimmy!

At this point I must pay tribute to the AA! If you are camping or disappearing into the Ullu then full cover should be mandatory.  Fortunately when the keys disappeared (and I refuse to tell anyone how they disappeared) my car was unlocked so I could still load everything back into the car before I was recovered by Callum who arrived all the way from Stornaway on the Isle of Lewis.

Callum took me to the Laxdale camp site in Stornaway where I was introduced to Kenny a local locksmith (Scotlock) who assured me that he could replicate my car key and he could. It took him over 24 hours because he also works for the Council and the Police who require him for emergencies. I did not realise the technology that goes into our car keys in this modern age but Kenny knew and by yesterday I was queued up at Stornaway Harbour fourth in line for an emergency berth to Ullapool!

I left Ullapool yesterday at 5.30pm and via, Inverness, Fort William and Crianrannich I arrived on the M74 at 11pm.  I slept for 2 hours at the Bothwell Service Station and then arrived home at 6am this morning.  It was the drive of my life!  I challenge anyone to replicate it and I am  71 years of age.

It sounds like a disaster but it was a wonderful challenge.  It is all to easy to think 'old' and this has given me a new lease of life. I was way out of my comfort zone (in more ways than one) but I am so glad that I took on the challenge.  The camping fraternity are brilliant. I do not understand how the huge gap between them and 'Westmonster' can exist?

It was Kenny who told me that Cameron had lost the vote on Syria as he deciphered the complexities of my car key and he watched in wonder as I did a strange wee dance around my tent! More of that later...!

PS  What did we do before the mobile phone and a public thanks to my wife and daughter for their back up.  They thought I was crazy and now they know that they were correct!!!

Cyprus! Yet Another Reason to Vote UKIP!

bank_of_cyprus_390_1505
I have been diametrically opposed to the unelected commissars of the European Union ever since I began the blog.  I have continually emphasised that any organisation must pass an audit if it is funded by public money.  For eighteen years the EU has failed to meet the demands of an audit and yet all our front bench politicians from Con/Lab/Lib continue to support it.

Nick Clegg goes even further because he would take us into the discredited euro zone even though we all now know that the inevitable collapse of this ill-conceived currency will cause immense hardship to many people living in the southern countries of Europe.

As country after country has to secure bailouts from the Central Banks it proves that almost all of the EU supporting economists and so called experts who man the financial institutions were either incompetent of fantasists (these are the nicest descriptions I could think of).

Never however, did I think that they would resort to theft from personal bank accounts to maintain the euro as is apparently about to happen in Cyprus. It shows the level of depravity that these EU officials are prepared to stoop to in order to keep the euro in place.

Of course Cyprus is home to a lot of rich Russians and Russia, unlike the fawning politicians of the EU, is usually prepared to back up its citizens.  It has caused such an outcry that they may have to rethink but it does illustrate what a ruthless group run the EU.  It is clearly another warning that voting Con/Lab/Lib is just another vote to keep the EU in business.  Only UKIP will take us out of the EU so surely you don't need any further evidence.

The British Drinking Problem

OK the pictures appearing in the mainstream media are typical and we have all witnessed the inexplicable behaviour of our young people. I must declare an interest because in my time I have sunk some stuff!  I remember some of my more extreme exploits in the army which today make me wince.

The difference is that no matter what state I was in I always got myself to safety. Not once in a career of over indulgence in alcohol have I ever needed the assistance of the police or the medical profession.

The photos in the papers are horrific mainly because it generally involves scantily clad females.  I cannot understand the culture that insists that the young have to drink until they are utterly incapable. It must cease but our politicians just ignore it. They actually created it with the introduction of Tony Blair's 'cafe culture' 24 hour drinking Bill.

This cannot be allowed to continue.  It is not the price of alcohol that is the problem.  It is the attitude of the young to alcohol. They don't just go out to get drunk they try to empty their brains. They want to act in an irresponsible manner so that it excuses disgusting behaviour and the next day they glory in it!

It is time to call a halt. We must stop them harming themselves and inconveniencing everyone else. They must be made to pay for the treatment that they receive.  I would suggest that if they cannot control themselves then they should face a fine.

If the police or the medical services are involved in any capacity then I believe that a £200 penalty should be imposed. It then gets doubled for every subsequent offence until they get the message!

We must get tough for their own good. Once they fear the fine they may just get responsible.  Then they can brag that they are on '£800' so they cannot afford a further offence!

It is the only language that they understand.  It will give them 'street cred' and possibly save their lives. We just need some action from those 'plebs' in Westmonster!!

The Shame of the UK

I am currently watching SKY news and I cannot believe the chaos that the government and Gorgon Brown in particular have caused by the premature announcement that 100 coaches were available in Madrid to bring stranded passengers back home. These coaches have yet to be assembled and are still well over 24 hours from reaching Madrid!

This PM cannot sink any lower. It has taken him and his jaundiced Cabinet six days to come up with any form of plan to assist Uk citizens. He now calls a team of 3 Foreign Office officials a 'rapid reaction' force. What is paid about this nonsense?
Why on earth have they not approached the Spanish authorities for assistance? He is the great europhile. He so wants to be bloody European and yet he has so little authority that our people are left to starve while he twiddles his options.

Will even this not demonstrate once and for all to the prospective NOLab voters that we need to rid ourselves of this imposter on 6th May. I just have this recurring nightmare that on 7th May he might still be there in one guise or another.

Brits Abroad

I have just spent a week in Tenerife in constant warmth with day time temperatures varying between 22 and 25 degrees. My wife and I have opted for this March holiday for the last few years because we can always guarantee the temperatures in the Canary Islands at this time of year.

What struck me this year however, was the sheer number of Brits who actually live on Tenerife. They are everywhere, running taxis, cafes, restaurants, hiring out apartments and generally living a very nice life in the sun.

Satellite television brings the English lifestyle into their homes and the English papers arrive regularly each day delivered to English style supermarkets which stock all the English products interspersed with Spanish and German food as well.

The English language is common everywhere and so here we have a superbly relaxed life style lacking nothing of English news and yet a million miles away from the misery heaped on so many by Gordon Brown and his cohorts.

The streets are shiningly clean, graffiti is non existant, the police motor cycle patrols are highly visible even along the proms and the collection of rubbish puts the emphasis on the householder. It is the latter which is so simple. Stragetically placed in each area, usually on a street corner are the 'Basura' (Rubbish) bins. They are numerous and appear to be emptied every night. They are all under cover so that rubbish does not smell or blow around and there are also convenient bottle banks. I cannot believe the fuss that the local councils in this country make about recycling.

It is the social atmosphere which is so refreshing because real English people can enjoy a real English lifestyle without any of the Marxist politically correct crap which we endure on a daily basis.

I arrived back to a drop of 18 degrees and a post bag which included an annual Council Tax bill for almost £1400. The councils lecture everyone on recycling and then produce bag fulls of socialist propaganda attempting to explain how they can waste so much money on so little! I don't mind the Fire Service contribution but a non existent Police Service is costing me way too much. The rest is a scandal when one compares the reduction in services which we have all suffered in the last decade.
