The Coalition and the Disabled!

I have a dear friend who was once a colleague and we still meet occasionally and correspond often. When she was 18 she was smashed to bits in a car accident which killed two of her friends. She has a magnificent spirit and because of that she recovered to lead a decent life.

As ever however, when people have serious injuries, the problems return as they age and today she walks with the aid of a stick. She cannot work and it is obvious that she cannot work but now she has a problem. Today the government are conducting a campaign against the vulnerable and many of them are really scared. The government is employing a private company to investigate the disabled with the incentive that every person they get off benefits will attract a bonus. I applaud the investigation but reject the bonus incentive because it clearly could have a negative affect.

We all know that there are many cheats in the system. My friend knows of two pensioners who both claim to be carers for each other and get £200 per week as a result. They use it for cruising!!

Is it not about time that the government put into place a system that is effective. We have been waiting for such a system now for a few decades. Why are the most vulnerable of our society a political target? We hear a lot about the efforts of Iain Duncan-Smith to change the system but nothing ever happens.

We need change at ground level. We need medical evidence. Most of those deserving support have huge medical files. The cheats have little medical background and must be challenged. If anyone wants to claim disability benefit we must, as Judge Judy requires, produce the written evidence...the proof.

Far too many people have been allowed to cheat the system courtesy of poor administration. As usual the public servants who have access to huge salaries cannot run a piss up in a brewery! As a result many of our most vulnerable are left fearing for their future. It is a disgrace!

Care for the Elderly?

This morning live on BBC television a care worker from Norfolk burst into tears at the complete madness of her care industry. It would appear that she was on the verge of insanity at her inability to change a system which is clearly rotten to the core.

At the centre of this mayhem are heartless Town Hall fatcats who are trying to cut costs (so that they can claim their bonuses) and reduce care for the elderly to a time management issue. The care worker in question had just revealed that she did not have sufficient time to care for her clientele unless she worked unpaid in her own time!

Clearly care for the elderly has become a local government cost issue and consequently the fatcats will be determined to cling onto their monstrous salaries, expenses and bonuses. In my opinion it is time that Westmonster layed down guidelines but then where do we start? Nobody with a hint of compassion can stipulate rules for care in the community. Only the care worker can judge each individual situation as it arises and if they are employed as a care worker then they should be trusted to deal with each individual problem.

Greed is the problem. I would suggest that whenever we discover an example of neglect then we immediately sack the appropriate manager. If they were under this type of threat then it might just encourage them to care slightly more for the people on their books!

This never happened in the days when town hall employees were paid a reasonable salary and everything else was spent on the public. Until we return to sanity and end the greed culture our elderly and everyone else will continue to be deprived of the services that we need.

The Social Services

Throughout November and December of last year the country had to live out the nauseating details of the 'Baby P'case where the Haringey Social Services demonstrated their wanton incompetence by adhering to government targets rather than protecting their vulnerable kids.

I write at the time that I could not believe the antics of Sharon Shoesmith who was supposedly in charge of this charade and paying handsomely to cock it up. I don't think any of us could believe how she continued to trumpet the NoLab mantra and seemed unconcerned about the suffering kids.

Today, predictably, she is now trying to sue Haringey Council for anything that she thinks that she might get away with. At the moment her NoLab lawyers have come up with sex discrimination. As I said before she should be in jail but no doubt she will walk away with thousands in compensation for failing in her duty.

The trouble is that she is only part of the problem. She was actually only doing what she was told to do. There are thousands of these NoLab slaves earning huge sums of our money for doing what they are told to do. The real problem is of course Ed Balls because he has imposed the targets on these muppets so that common sense is replaced by dogma. I often wonder how he can sleep at night but then like President Mugabe the lives of the taxpayer is cheap. What matters is power so why the children of the nation die the NoLab project continues apace bowing to no man despite the tragic consequences.

Do you know I can almost understand them but what I really cannot understand is how a family man like David Cameron has never announced plans to dismantle the NoLab machine and get us back to common sense. Come to think of it neither has the LibDems but then Nick Clegg is really only a cardboard cutout. Where will it all end?

Social Services

I am continually concerned about the actions of our Social Services. Overall their performance has been abysmal when one considers cases that feature in the press. We have seen the performance of Haringey and the consequences of their actions but I have this real fear that the agenda of the Social Services nationally is approaching levels only tolerated by Adolf Hitler and his cohorts.

None of us wants to read about the agony of relatives fighting to retain some proportion of reason when fighting for their rights to remain in contact with grandchildren or close relatives. How Social Services can rule that same sex parents can be better guardians than the grandparents is beyond belief.

Our Social Services act with unprecedented secrecy. They are out of control. They can do anything that they want and nobody is allowed to question them. It is high time that they were held to account.
